Take the Short Cut
By Sonia Brown
“I
guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you
walk, your steps will not be hampered when you run, you will not stumble.” (Prov
4:11-12)
Everyone knows that the shortest way is
always the straight way.
I went to a UTEP football game with my
husband, Tom, and with some close friends. We always have such a good time
especially since we are having a winning season. And because our team has
played so well the University stadium has had several games sold out. The
crowds are huge.
On this day we arrived early. We didn’t
want to have to struggle through the crowds. We wanted to find our seats
quick so, like any true football fans, watch the kick off. We desired to see
the whole game from beginning to end.
So we sat down at the 50 yard line and made
ourselves comfortable. As the football game proceeded we began to get
hungry. Now you know you have to eat at a football game. Snacks go hand in
hand with football but who was going to get up and buy the snacks. I
volunteered.
I knew a short cut. I wasn’t going to have
to stand in line for an hour. I wasn’t going get frustrated. I had season
passes and knew my way around. I learned quickly on where and where not to
go. Most people go down below to purchase their snacks; however, I went to
the top of the stadium. It’s where the announcer broadcast the games. They
have concession stand up there. It literally took me only 10 minutes to get
hot dogs, cokes, and nachos. I surprised everyone around me when I returned.
They couldn’t believe how short of time it took to purchase all our goodies.
Well do you know life has shortcuts? Yes,
it does. I discovered them just like I discovered our snack bar.
God’s word tells us that wisdom will guide
us. His word is wisdom. We also have the leading of the Holy Spirit to lead
us and tell us “This is the way, walk in it” (Is 30:21).
We don’t have to go through life lost and
confused. We don’t have to take sin detours. Detours always lead us through
the long way.
Near our home the transportation department
is fixing the streets for drainage. They have provided several detours to
take. All of my neighbors hate it! It’s so time consuming. That’s the way
sin is. It is a waste of our time. It’s never worthwhile. We always regret.
Take time to get into God’s word and ask
the Holy Spirit to lead you. Don’t believe the lie that you don’t have time.
This is the shortcut and the fastest, most rewarding way to live.
